1st European Saxophone Congress

The saxophone is an instrument with genuinely European roots

since it was invented by the Belgian Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) in 1840.

To mark the 200th anniversary of Adolphe Sax's birth, the Sax-Ensemble Foundation and the Spanish Saxophonists Association organised the "1st European Saxophone Congress" in Ciudad Real, from 1st to 4th May 2014, as a means of exchange for artistic and pedagogical experiences as well as the promotion and spreading of the European saxophone identity.

The event has had more success than expected, with 400 participant registrations, 25 exhibitors or sponsors as regards companies. To this we must add 200 musicians of the accompanist orchestras and an average of 200 people in the audience attending every day, which we estimate at 600 people throughout the congress. In total, counting the audience, more than 1,200 people have somehow participated in this congress.

Furthermore, it has paved the way for the organisation of European congresses in the future.
The website will be active for at least a year with advertising, but as a report of the activities carried out. It is now possible to see and download the photographs in the gallery, watch summary videos of the event and download programmes and the poster of the congress in the participant area.
During the congress closing ceremony, it was agreed to elect a European Committee to decide when the next congress will take place, choosing from the candidacies submitted. The organising commission of Eursax 2014 will be in charge of coordinating candidacy submission for said Committee, as well as the election of said Committee. The European Committee will choose the place of the next congress for 2016 or 2017.

These are the objectives of the European Saxophone Congress:

The musical promotion

pro-musical
